Film Reaction

After watching the film today, I am surprised at how many different types of blocks that can be in the road for teachers. Not only are some teachers worried about losing their students due to programs being demolished, but teachers become involved in student's lives and have to make choices about what will be best for them. The little boy who lived in an abusive enviornment and the student finally told his teacher about it. What a situation to be in when you have a student tell you what they go through when they are not in school. I think that is what affected me the most is our future classroom will not be the perfect setting, will not have perfect students who get everything, we will not be perfect ourselves, but it is the things we do for our students that is perfect. The teacher who got her students to talk to the board about the program, when they themselves were the reason that the board gave the 2.1 millon dollars for the program. The fact that the teacher reported that one of his students was being abused even though that boy left with many of his friends question what was going on. There are things we will do in our lives that we don't want to do because we are afraid of the outcome., but are things we will do because we are teachers and the only thing that we should put before ourselves our the students. My goal with my future students is to be aware that there are going to be problems, and that nobody is perfect. I hope to make a difference in their lives even though at that time they may not see what I have done for them. I hope that I can also be on that personal level that some of those first year teachers were with their students. Not to just become friends with my students, but to also connect on more of a level with them than as if I were just a teacher.

Join The Group!

Facebook, Myspace, and other social internet websites are creating a rave over many teens and even adult communities. Not only can you interact with friends, listen to music, share photos, and even blog, but you can also join different groups. As a future early childhood teacher, there are different groups that you can join such as the Early Childhood Education group. This group is set up so that anybody can join the group and can even invite others to join. There are 900 different memebers of this group. If you are going into Early Childhood education this group is for you. There are different discussion boards about different topics that all members have access to and can even add their own opinions in each discussion. There is also a wall for people to post anything they want everybody read. Such as links to websites, tips and ideas, and even stories. Not only are there groups for just Early Childhood teachers, but almost anything you can think of. Just take a chance to look around your facebook acount and see the different types of access you now have! Enjoy!

Internet+Kids=Problem?

After watching the video and experiencing it myself, I have see how much the Internet affects children from a small age all the way up to their late teens. I think it impacts the information they have access too, just like the boy who commited suicide. I also think that the interenet impacts the way kids' interact with others, and may become a help in the way they become more social. However, Even though the video encourages parent involment in what their kids are doing on the internet, I think there can be too much of parental involment-- which was shown from the mom that was involved with her kids too much. As a future teacher, I am worried that parents may be pushing kids away by being too involved in their online life, but I also think that there can be not enough involvment. I think parents need to find the medium level in being involved but not too involved. I think as educators we do need to make sure we inform students about the problems that could go wrong.

Restless Students

Just like most of the teachers, students are beginning to get spring fever. I am starting to find that many of the students are more anxious to get out of the classroom scene than actually working on their work. I have decided to make my classroom enviorment more of the vibrant outdoors that they are looking for. I created an art project of students making flowers weather coloring a flower sheet or using the pre-cut flower petals and circle to paste and create their own. With their artwork, I took the time to decorate one wall in my classroom with green paper on the bottom and put their flowers in the grass area. Then, of course, added the sun and a tree. Hopefully this will get them to feel more like the spring came inside the building.

Spring Time Cupcakes

As we all know, Spring Break is only a week away. I have decided to make a special day to get all the students in the spring time atmosphere. On the friday before break, I am going to bake cupcakes and frost them in yellow, green, pink, and orange frosting. I then will purchase different colors of sprinkles and different decorates for the students to decorate the top of the cupcakes. I am well aware that this will be a challenge in the mess factor, but giving them a task like this will help them with many skills and also make them feel quiet important.

Spring Time

As most of you have probably noticed, the weather outside has changed into much warmer weather. As a preschool teacher, i have already began planning for great lesson plans that will get the students outdoors. One thing i have considered having a scavanger hunt of different things outdoors (buds on trees, rocks, twigs, ect) if anybody has any ideas or comments please let me know.

Art Project

Today in my preschool classroom, I experienced my first art project with a group of four year olds. As most of you know, anything dealing with colored paper, colored scissors, and different colored markers excites children as much as snack time. I decided to work with our newly learned colors by allowing them to be kids and make anything they wanted. The project was fun for the children and fun for me to see they have learned the differences in colors. Some students made abstract pictures with random shapes of colored paper and some used the markers to draw trees and people. Hope you can incorporate an art project similar to mine to engage your children.
